The Feminine Mystique, Puerto Rican Style

Whenever I hear what is considerad the ideal beauty by Euro-centric academic discourses, this image of Iris Chacón, as well as how the poems by Vizcarrondo, Guillén, Palés Matos, and other Caribbean writers represent their "mamotas", come to mind. 

Once more, even among writers on the margin, their margins are determined by the constraints of their histories. Esthetics are not solely controlled in particular centers of power but by specific contextual sensibilities and desires. The margins have different kinds of, well, margins.

 "Nalgas, quiero nalgas, que sin ellas,......"; "Culinpandenado la reina avanza....." cantan los versos por las calles antillanas....
